SOSI AUDAIN

letter S

My name is Sosena (Sosi) Audain. At the time of this writing, April 2021, I am 12 years old. I was born in Silver Spring, Maryland. I am the proud daughter of a Haitian immigrant, Dr. Linz Audain, and an Ethiopian immigrant, Dr. Hana Kelele. I live with my Dad, cousins, and nanny in a suburb of Washington, DC. I am in the 7th Grade at the prestigious Georgetown Day School in Washington, D.C.

How do I love thee, let me count the ways.

Ms. Elizabeth Barrett Browning- I get it. You may be one of the greatest poets of all time. But for me? Well, the people who read my stuff? They are just the greatest people ever! They love me! I love them! I can’t even count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.

I know, I know. I’ve got a big soul too. I’ve got a soul for things, animals, and people who are at once magical and innocent. I’ve got a soul that transcends the impulse of meanness. I’ve got a soul that quiets itself with nightly prayers to the Grand and Only Creator of the Universe.

I love thee to the level of every day’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.

Yes, every day, I too love to count my blessings. I count my blessings of health in a world where far too many have none. I count my blessings of joy for without it, life has no meaning. I count my blessings of youthfulness for all too soon, our time on earth comes to an end.

So, there you have it, dear reader: Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s majestic words, as seen through the eyes of the original enfant terrible of English Literature: Sosi Audain! And now on to the compulsory stuff.

About four years ago, thanks mainly to the encouragement from my cousin Aleyah, writing became my “thing.” True, thanks to my dad, reading had been my thing for as long as I can remember: lots of reading, of lots of different books. So, starting four years ago, over the course of the next three years, I wrote two books. Then last year, I wrote Reversed. Reversed is a novella that has been accepted for publication and is undergoing revision. Reversed is a prequel to The GIVID. I started writing The GIVID in the middle of December of 2020 and finished it in February of 2021. My next book, Mole, is due for completion and publication in 2022. Also, I’ve been writing poems occasionally for the past four years. A collection of my poems is also scheduled for completion and publication in 2022 (“Sosi’s Poems: a Collection”).

I enjoy singing. I had my first significant vocal performance when I was seven years old before a capacity audience at a Christmas concert at the prestigious Strathmore Hall in Bethesda, Maryland. At the age of 8, I co-produced my Dad’s vocal/piano album, “Sosi’s Daddy.” The album is entitled that only because I was the one who bugged my Dad into recording it. I write music. I dabble on the piano, guitar, and violin. I love to draw. I have drawn the cover for all of my books to date. I have won awards in various sports competitions: swimming, ice skating, and Tae Kwon Do. I hold the rank of Brown Belt in Tae Kwon Do. I was a student at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, in Bethesda, Maryland, for Grades 1 through 5. While there, I received numerous academic awards.

Reversed
